Mijas
The Numbers of Visits to the Tourist Offices in the lOcality continues to grow. The new office in mijas pueblo received 71,126 enquiries during the high season which is 10,000 more than last year. The number of visits by Spanish tourists took over from the Britsih fo top place with 26,800 and 24,000 respectively. The French followed with 6,100 then the Germans (4,000), Americans (1,700) and Dutch (1,640).
Nerja
The construction of Nerja’s integral sewage works looks set to be delayed for at least another four years, announced the Mayor, José Alberto Armijo, last week. Following a meeting with the Southern Water Board is was decided that a new location for the sewage treatment plant, between the rivers Chillar and Seco, was to be studied. This means that the whole bureaucratic process will have to go back to square one. Local residents and business people have complained that further delays will only server to damage tourism in the area. The cost of the new plant will be around 48 million euros.
Fuengirola
The Police have seized more than 30,000 pirate CDs in the town in 2994 making Fuengirola the Costa del Sol resort where more illegal activity of this kind is detected. Last week members of the police force met with representatives of the General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE), when it was decided to take immediate action. This includes the destruction of CDs that have already been seized even though the case have not yet gone to court due to the difficulty of storing the illegal merchandise. A representative of the Office for the Defence of Intellectual Property stressed that the sale of pirate copies of CDs not only damages the record industry but also implies the presence of mafia-style organizations who are behind the “top manta” sellers on the streets.
 
Work on the Avenida Juan Gómez Juanito is currently going according to schedule, and should be complete by the end of January. The councilor for Town Planning, Ana Mula, explained that work is currently taking place on the parking spaces and the pavements. The improvements have cost 429,000 euros and started at the beginning of September.
